About the Studio

A place where students keep coming back, and stay for decades

Sthira Studios, formerly Iyengar Yoga Source, has been home to serious yoga practice in Providence since 2005. Students come for the detailed instruction on how to do the postures and for a vigorous approach that builds strength, mobility, and an awareness that follows you out the door, into how you stand, sit, and move through the day.

We teach you how to pay attention. Precise instruction, poses held long enough for the body to learn, and props that bring awareness to specific parts of the body add up to a different relationship with your body, one where you leave class more alert, calm, and at home in yourself.

Iyengar Yoga

Detailed instruction in how to do the postures, at every level from a first class to an advanced practice.

Personal Training

Expert-led strength training for adults who want precise, personalized instruction, in a quiet private studio.

Massage

Targeted bodywork for real relief. Clinical, customized massage to reduce pain, release tension, and support recovery.

SCHEDULE

Yoga Classes

Iyengar Yoga is for every age, body type, and fitness level. It gives you practical tools for a strong, healthy body, a clear mind, and a steadier emotional life. Most classes run in the studio and live online, and every membership covers both.

New to Iyengar Yoga? Start with Foundations.

  • THURSDAYS – 6:30 PM
  • SATURDAYS – 11:45 AM
  • SUNDAYS – 10:00 AM

Foundations (Beginner)

A welcoming place to start. We introduce the foundational postures at a pace conducive to learning something new. You will work hard to build strength, then rest at the end so you leave refreshed.

  • MONDAYS – 10:00 AM
  • THURSDAYS – 11:00 AM

Foundations (55+)

For anyone feeling the effects of aging who wants a class that takes that into account. Balance, joint health, strength, and ease of movement, with props for support throughout.

  • MONDAYS – 5:30 PM & 6:00 PM
  • TUESDAYS – 10:00 AM
  • WEDNESDAYS – 7:30 AM & 10:00 AM
  • Thursdays – 11:00 AM & 4:30 PM (All Levels)
  • FRIDAYS – 10:00 AM
  • SATURDAYS – 8:00 AM & 10:00 AM
  • SUNDAYS – 8:00 AM

Intermediate

A vigorous class rotating weekly through standing postures, forward extensions, twists, back extensions, inversions, and restoratives with pranayama, the yogic practice of regulating the breath and the energy it carries. At this level the teaching moves from the shape of a pose toward what you feel inside it. New but ready to dive in? You are welcome. Classes marked + are more challenging.

EXTRA CHALLENGING
LIVE STREAM ONLY
  • WEDNESDAYS – 6:00 PM
  • SUNDAYS – 5:30 PM

Restorative

Fully supported, deeply restful. With the body held by props, physical effort falls away, the breath softens, and the mind settles. Accessible to everyone.

  • MONDAYS – 12:15 PM
  • TUESDAYS – 6:00 PM

Ropes Yoga

A different way into the poses. With the wall ropes carrying part of your weight, the spine lengthens, the shoulders and hips open, and hanging upside down becomes easy and, for most people, the best part of class.

  • TUESDAYS – 12:15 PM

Yoga for a Healthy Back

For anyone looking to care for their back, no experience necessary. Postures that elongate, strengthen, and release the muscles along the spine, with modifications to ease pain and support healing.

Retreats

Step away from daily life for a few days of concentrated practice. Poses open, ideas that were just out of reach become clear, and the people you practice beside become friends. You come home with a steadier practice and a clearer head. A long weekend every September in New Hampshire, and a week abroad: Umbria, Italy, spring 2027.

Personal training and massage are booked by appointment.

"When an asana is done correctly, the body movements are smooth, and there is a lightness and freedom in the mind."

Owner and Director

This studio has been my home for more than two decades, first as a student, then a teacher, and since 2020 as its owner. I have been teaching Iyengar Yoga since 2005. My aim is simple: a place where people feel welcomed, are supported to meet their bodies where they are, and are challenged to build real strength and stability, with yoga philosophy as a resource for living an examined life.

”Though I’d done yoga a long time ago, I had never done Iyengar yoga. I’ve been surprised by this approach and already carry what I’ve learned into my day-to-day. The instructors are incredibly kind, and the community is friendly and welcoming.

”This is by far the best yoga studio I have attended. I have practiced yoga for about 14 years at studios in multiple countries, and this one has given me the most. I appreciate the focus on alignment, body awareness, accessibility, and on the poses as one element of a larger science. Every single class gives me something new.

Hildegard H.

”The teachers guide you into the poses. The props provide excellent support if one needs it. Although you're in a group setting, it feels like a private class. The physical and mental benefits are amazing.
